Big noise Blaster

By IAN SAVAGE
EXPLOSIVES expert and outragious after dinner speaker Blaster Bates helped a luncheon go with a bang at a Bolton hotel.
The 70 year old demolition man was the guest speaker at the second in a series of Luncheon Clubs at the Pack Horse Hotel.
A total of £300 was raised for the Bolton Lad's and Girl's club after a raffle.
Blaster is pictured centre with, from left, Bill Calderbank, chairman of Bolton Lad's and Girl's club, youth leader Jeremy
Glover and accom- odation sales man- ager Barbara McCabe.
Former Australian fast bowler Denis Lillee was the guest speaker in the first in the monthly series of lunches.
Future speakers are: November - former deputy chief constable of Greater Manchester John Stalker; December - controversial Judge James Pickles; January - Bull-
seye presenter and comedian Jim Bow- en; February - former madam Cyn-thia Payne.
Cash will go to local charities including Crowthorn School for children with special needs, the BEN Xmas appeal, Bolton Hospital and the Mayers charity.

The series follows on from the three years of sportsman's luncheon clubs.
Pack Horse general manager David Cook said ''we have taken a change of direction to give an even more entertaining lunch.''
He said that the speakers had been selected to suit a wider range of interests and a mixed audience.

Anyone wishing to attend future lunches should contact David at the hotel, tel: 27261. (pic ref A723/10)
